* The Credit Union Difference *
Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives, meaning that our members are also our owners and that we are not profit-driven, but service-driven. UnitedOne Credit Union is a professionally managed, full service credit union offering a wide range of savings, loans and convenience services to our member-owners.
What are the major differences between credit unions and other financial institutions? 1) As a not-for-profit cooperative, our earnings are returned to our members in the form of better savings and loan rates, and new and improved products and services. Service to our members and our communities are top priorities. 2) As a member-owner, you get to vote for our Board of Directors. Each primary member age 18 or older gets one vote, regardless of how much money you have on deposit with us. 3) Our Board of Directors is made up of members who volunteer their time, talent and business expertise to direct the activities of the credit union. 4) Any member age 18 or older may run for a position on our Board of Directors. 5) Since our members own us, we believe we are more responsive to your needs than any other financial institution could ever be.
We encourage your input on how we're doing at all times - we actually want you to tell us when we do something you don't like. And, of course, we like to hear when we make you happy. It's often through your suggestions that new products are offered and things change for the better. Always feel free to communicate with us in person, by phone, in writing or through e-mail.
There are some similarities to other financial institutions. Your savings are federally insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, an arm of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), up to at least $100,000 here at the credit union. Plus, certain retirement accounts, such as IRAs and Keoghs, are separately insured to an additional $250,000. For more information on the NCUA and how coverage can vary with multiple accounts, you may go to
http://webapps.ncua.gov/ins/ anytime. We are an Equal Housing Opportunity Lender. A ll officials and employees of the credit union are bonded. We are professionally managed, and staff undergo continuous training to improve their service skills and technical knowledge. UnitedOne is examined regularly by authorities to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, and an independent auditing firm is hired to audit the accounts of the credit union and members. You and your family can save and borrow with great confidence at UnitedOne.
Our Mission
Building Financial Strength for Your Everyday Life ... Together
The Birth of UnitedOne Credit Union
Today, UnitedOne Credit Union stands as a strong leader in the communities we serve. We're proud of our long-standing commitment to superior member service and our community involvement. The expanding needs of our member-owners has fueled our desire to better service their needs through growth. Here's a brief historical look at UnitedOne.
UnitedOne Credit Union formed in 2002 as a result of a member-approved merger between Manitowoc Community Credit Union and First Superior Credit Union of Sheboygan.
MCCU was chartered as Aluminum Workers Credit Union in 1938 to serve Mirro Company employees and their families. From there the credit union expanded into one which could serve everyone in the county, and in 2001 added Kewaunee and Door Counties.
FSCU formed in 1941 to serve employees of the Vollrath Company. In 1984 it expanded its charter to serve anyone living or working in Sheboygan County. Along the way Garton Toy, General Box and Holy Name credit unions all merged with FSCU.
Today we stand at more than 25,000 members with three offices in Manitowoc and two in Sheboygan, though we are not too large to care. You'll still find our staff to be friendly and caring, as much as you'll find them to be knowledgeable and professional. You can count on that!
Membership
Our membership is open to anyone living or working in Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Kewaunee and Door counties. We follow the "once a member, always a member" philosophy meaning that as long as you maintain your UnitedOne membership we can serve you, even if at some point in the future you no longer live or work here. We proudly serve all your financial needs from the time you're a baby with our MATES Kid's Club, to your first checking account, student loan, car loan, credit card, home loan, certificate, IRA, etc. We're ready to serve you and your family's needs throughout your lifetime.
