Be Prepared for Upcoming Federal Benefits Change

April 8, 2025

The U.S. Department of the Treasury is phasing out paper checks for federal benefits and only making electronic payments via direct deposit.

This means check recipients will need to make the switch from paper checks to electronic payments to receive federal benefits, like social security or tax refunds. The federal government’s phase out of paper checks for payments will be completed by September 30, 2025.

If you’ve never set up for payment via direct deposit, we’re happy to assist you at UnitedOne Credit Union. We understand change can sometimes feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do this alone.

Stop by one of our branches in Manitowoc and Sheboygan and a member of our staff will take you through the process and answer your questions. You can also call us or make an appointment online at www.UnitedOne.org

Below are things you’ll need to ensure a smooth transition:

  • Your 12-digit federal benefit check number
  • The amount of your most recent federal benefit check
  • UnitedOne’s routing transit number: 275979173
  • Your UnitedOne account number and type (checking or savings)

To learn more about the upcoming transition to federal benefit payments, visit the Treasury Department’s Go Direct® website at www.godirect.gov.

Making the switch to direct deposit is fast, free, and convenient. Let us show you just how simple it can be. Drop by or give us a call today at (920) 684-0361 in Manitowoc or (920) 451-8222 in Sheboygan — we look forward to helping you make this change with confidence!
