Contactless payments use short-range wireless technology. It’s a quick and secure way to make payments with a card, like the UnitedOne Visa® debit card.

You can tell if your card has this capability if it has printed on the front the contactless symbol, which resembles a WiFi signal.

This method of payment is also referred to as tap to pay. However, you don’t actually need to tap the checkout terminal with your card. You simply need to hold it about an inch or two away when prompted to pay.

A growing number of merchants now offer contactless payments. If they do, you’ll see the contactless symbol on the terminal at checkout.

Besides being convenient, contactless payments are also more secure. That’s because a one-time code is generated and used to process your payment with the merchant. This means your account number and information isn’t exchanged with each transaction to help reduce fraud.
